Meet Leanne.jpg

I grew up with a large family in a small town in the Okanagan Valley and have been photographing moments in my life since early elementary school days.

I have always wanted to be a photographer.

Through years of practice, education, travel, assisting, producing, teaching, awards, experiences and countless shoots, my dreams to create memorable moments and experiences for others developed and ultimately led to my career as a wedding photographer.

I now live with my small family in a big town on Canada's west coast and in fifteen years of photographing weddings, I continue to find inspiration through the relationships and experiences I have with people and the constant creative projects i find for myself.

I have a very photogenic five year old I can’t get enough of and when I’m not making pictures of people in love, I am often making them of her.

I'm an extrovert who savors time alone. I enjoy movies with beautiful cinematography and I love discovering qualities in light, good design and all things well made.  I appreciate subtle details and photographing weddings often accommodates this appreciation wonderfully. I’m also thrilled to discover beauty in unassuming, sometimes dark places. I love new experiences and first times. Traveling is a lifelong passion. I love my family. I think children are hilarious and keep us young. I experience many heartwarming moments during a wedding day, but my favorites are often listening to speeches and witnessing the reactions people have to them. I always fall in love with my clients a little bit more after hearing their loved ones talk about them.

I love to connect and create and i hope to do this with you!

I live in Vancouver Canada with my husband David. We have grown twin boys and a dog named Bell.

I was born and raised in a busy district of Tokyo, growing up in an environment where my parents worked as a husband-and-wife team running a small optical shop. My parents taught me to be humble yet precise and the importance of being sensitive to a customer's concerns.

Upon moving to Canada in 1988, I pursued my study in visual arts. I met my husband while studying photography and it was a natural progression for me to start my career as a photographer with the help of my husband who was already running a fashion commercial studio at that time. I love the lifestyle that running a husband-and-wife studio provides us and I appreciate all the friendships we have built and the trust we have established with our commercial clients over the years.

I have always loved photographing weddings and people in love. But with such a busy career in commercial photography, I never felt I had the time to start up my own wedding photography business. So joining Leanne's team in 2004 was another natural progression.

I have spent many years developing my style as an artist and feel my strengths as a wedding photographer are in my deep respect for tradition and my ability in being able to remain calm during stressful situations and keeping the mood relaxed. That said, I am also very technical and strive for accomplished precision in my imagery.

I love to relax and be surrounded by beautiful scenery... which makes living in Vancouver very easy for me. Gardening and lying in the sun are my happy places. I believe in savoring moments like enjoying someone’s company or a good bottle of wine. I try to be present in life... all of the time.

I love to be witness to moments I know won’t last very long such as cherry blossoms in the spring or a couple kissing in the street. Wedding photography enables me to document these small passions and this is pure joy for me!

Upon completing the Langara Photography Diploma Program in 1997, Leanne applied for an assisting position with Kyoko. Kyoko had graduated from the same program five years previous and already had a busy career photographing weddings for a local Vancouver studio.

While assisting and producing for several different commercial and fashion studios, Leanne assisted Kyoko photographing weddings on the weekends for several years. During this time, they adopted inspirations from their weekday fashion, commercial and editorial jobs as they each developed a real passion and respect for wedding photography. Their style and approach developed as they gained experience and all the while, their friendship grew.

Leanne began photographing weddings on her own in 2001 and in 2004, Leanne Pedersen Photographers Ltd was born when Kyoko joined as a primary photographer. With the help of their tight team of skilled secondary photographers and assistants, Leanne and Kyoko normally photograph weddings independently of one another but also give their clients the option to hire them together.

Over the years, Leanne and Kyoko have learned from one another and have grown together. Their education, experience and inspirations are so intertwined that their photography maintains a similar signature style allowing their clients a consistent look and feel to their images no matter which one of them is shooting.

In over 10 years, they have been lucky to win numerous awards for exceptional wedding imagery. In addition, their "real life" weddings and bridal fashion editorials have been consistently published in many Canadian and international wedding magazines since 2003. On the flip side to weddings, Kyoko's commercial fashion + advertising work and Leanne's lifestyle stock photography can be found published worldwide through countless editorial and advertising avenues including magazines, billboards, catalogs, television and online.
